Global maritime charity Sailors’ Society is adding a new pre-departure module to its innovative and acclaimed MyWellness e-learning platform and app.
Last year alone, almost 9,000 seafarers and cadets were prepared for life at sea through the charity’s hosted hour–long Sea Ready training, which is available via its Wellness at Sea programme – a favourite with the industry.
And in March, thanks to funding from the Baltic Exchange Charitable Foundation (BECF), this wellbeing toolkit will also be available as part of the Society’s equally popular MyWellness e-learning.
Sailors’ Society Head of Wellness, Johan Smith, said: “Through our ground-breaking work with cadets across the globe, we know just how important preparing them for life at sea is. It’s why we provide valuable training sessions to help all seafarers, regardless of rank, to feel more prepared before they join their ship.
“This new module, part of our interactive e-learning designed especially for seafarers, goes over important information about looking after yourself and others on board. It ensures everyone arrives on their vessel with a toolkit to help them thrive at sea, knowing where to go if they need support and how to spot signs of deteriorating mental health in themselves and their crew mates.”
BECF Chair Mike Robson added: “It is vital that seafarers join a ship as prepared as they can be and so we are delighted to fund this new training that is accessible to everyone. This module will help prepare crews for a happier, healthier and more fulfilling life at sea and it’s set to benefit the industry as a whole.”
